Day 6 – Walpole to Bridgetown

Today was the notorious Day 6 – we set out early as we had a very long day of hills riding to come. Mrs Howell had prepared our breakfast, including warm lasagne from the night before. We then hit the road with our shots in our pockets and our bikes at our feet. After about 5kms we hit the first big climb for the day, everyone was plodding up with the thought of another 80-90 km of more hills. We re-grouped at the top with all the riders staying on, and we made steady progress for the rest of the day, stopping every 20km or so with riders hopping in and out of the car. We were having gels and bars like they were going out of fashion, as we knew how hard the day would be. After getting most of the hills out of the way we had a late lunch at 120km with still 40km to go! All the riders got back on their bikes to complete the day. At the end of the day we had a nice decent into Bridgetown, but an unwanted hill coming into the nunnery. We were all in good spirits after completing the day so we went down to a local café and enjoyed a refreshing beverage and chips.
