Society and Environment
The Society and Environment Department aims to cover a broad range of topics that would develop students' understandings of how and why individuals and groups live together, interact with their environment, manage resources and create institutions and systems.
There is a strong emphasis on skills development in Year 8 to 10. Literacy and numeracy skills are applied and a strong focus is placed on research skills, critical thinking and enquiry tasks. A range of media is employed to cater for a range of learning styles.
Year 8 to 10
Society and Environment is compulsory in these years. In each of these years, History and Geography are covered. In Year 8, students complete an Asian Studies unit. In Year 9, an Economics and a Law and Government unit are respectively offered in addition to the History and Geography. In Year 10, students complete a unit on Social Issues which replaces the Law and Government unit completed in Year 9. Students in Year 10 further complete one week of Work Experience to assist with initial career direction.
Year 11 to 12
The Department offers four courses in Year 11 and 12. Students can select from Geography, History, Economics and Ancient History.
