Vocational Education and Training (VET)
The VET program at Swan Christian College encompasses three main areas.
Work Skills
Providing students with opportunities to develop work skills while continuing with school education through the Year 10 Work Experience and the Year 11 and 12 Structured Workplace Learning through the Worklink program.
Training
Providing a broader range of VET related educational options through the introduction of Nationally Accredited Training Certificates into College teaching programs in Languages, Hospitality, Business Studies, Multimedia and Information Technology and the extension of the school-based Traineeships (SBT's) and school-based apprenticeships (SBA's) programs.
Resources
Providing improved and relevant Career and study advice to all our students and their parents / guardians. The College hold's its own mini Careers Expo in The Swan Centre as part of the Parent/Teacher interviews evening at the end of Term 1. We have also created a more detailed and directed School-Career Transition program for our Year 11 and 12 students and their families.
The Swan Valley Trade Training Centre (operated by Swan Christian College)
At the end of 2009, the College, (in partnership with four other school) was awarded Federal Government capital funding of up to $5.45 million to develop a Trade Training Centre on our property. The aim of the TTC is to cater for years 11 and 12 students who wish to study for their Year 12 certificate and start an apprenticeship whilst still at school. The TTC support students through both academic and trade training; with mentoring, career advice and business and employability skills. These courses are all developed with industry input to ensure that the training offered will be relevant for local needs.
The TTC is planning to offer courses achieving up to Certificate III level in Hospitality, Furniture, Metal Fabrication and Instrument Fitting Electrical. We intend to have the TTC operational by the beginning of 2012.
