I must start by telling you all how delighted I am to be back in the College following a lengthy absence last term. I missed the people who I have come to know and enjoy; students, parents, and staff, and I have found your welcome back to be humbling yet enjoyable.

By now many of you would be aware that I was diagnosed earlier this year with cancer and that had to be addressed surgically. I have been very blessed; the cancer has been removed and I have been given a clean bill of health.

It is a wonderful thing to face a challenge knowing that people are praying for you and I was very blessed to be prayed for by our College community. Paul writes in Philippians 4 Verses 6-7: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to GodAnd the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”

I embarked on my journey confident of God’s plan and at peace with His will.

I must also thank the Deputy Principal, Mr Terry Eason and the leadership team for leading the College so ably during my absence.

As I try to write this, I am constantly distracted by the view from my office window. It is a simply glorious, sunny winter day today and, as I walked around the College during lunchtime, I witnessed students soaking up the sunshine and many making the most of the opportunity to run and burn off energy.

The happiness was contagious, and I was fortunate to witness several acts of spontaneous kindness as students interacted with each other.  Thinking of and caring for others has a very positive effect on our mental and physical health and is enjoyed by both parties.

As we settle into the term ahead, I encourage all of us to demonstrate we care through acts of kindness towards each other. Let’s continue to build a positive, caring, and above all, a kind community at Swan Christian College.
