Last Chance to See HONK!

You’ve heard of London’s West End and you’ve heard of The Ugly Duckling. Well, West End big-timers George Stiles and Anthony Drewe put those two things together and won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Musical in the year 2000 with their rendition called HONK!

Now, it’s time to celebrate HONK’s 21st birthday at the Maali Mia Theatre, performed by Swan students from Years 7-10. We love giving our students the opportunity to be part of a show like this, and after two terms of work, they’re looking forward to sharing the joy with you, the audience.

The Opening Night of HONK! on Wednesday was a great success and students are looking forward to hitting the stage one last time this Friday.

HONK is a fun version of the ugly duckling story, with clever lyrics and contemporary jokes. The music uses a wide variety of styles – everything you would expect of a West End or Broadway musical – you may even recognise yourself in some of this version of the story.

There’s a lot that goes into putting a musical together – lighting, music, sound balancing and mixing, sourcing props, costumes, mics, hairstyles, designing sets, rejecting designs because they’re too ambitious, building the pared-down set, casting, training singers, dancers, actors, re-casting, panic, organising… and in the end, a bucketload of fun and a honking great time!

So, grab the family, grab a ticket and join us for a few quacks, honks and laughs.

Tickets:

  • Book your tickets for the closing night of HONK on 24 September, 7:00pm online at scea.me/honk.
  • Online bookings close at 4:00pm on 24 September.
  • Door tickets will be available (while they last). We recommend booking online to avoid disappointment.
