Last year Kate (Year 11) applied for and received the Luke Durbridge Scholarship, which is an annual scholarship provided by former Swan student and professional cyclist Luke Durbridge.

The scholarship is for a student who is playing sport at an elite junior level and is designed to assist them with the financial costs such as travel, coaching etc.

Kate has continued to achieve at a high level in her sport of hockey and has used the scholarship to help her with that this year.

In April, Kate represented the state by playing with the WA Under 16 Girls team at the 2026 Hockey Australia National Championships in Tasmania, with the team finishing a respectable 4th place.

Kate was then selected to represent WA for the Under 18 Girls team, who competed at the 2026 Australian National Championships in Darwin, NT. The team finished in 5th place at the end of the tournament. Kate’s performances at both of these tournaments caught the eye of the national team selectors, with Kate being selected in the Australian Under 16 Girls squad.

The squad features top emerging talent from every state and territory as part of the national development pathway and serves as a primary talent pipeline aiming toward future international representation and major events like the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.

Congratulations on your outstanding achievements Kate!
