Term 1 concludes with the wonderful celebration of Easter – a time of deep significance and reflection for our College community.
In the Senior School, assemblies were held on the Secondary campus, focusing on the simple yet powerful act of eating together. Throughout history, sharing a meal has been a meaningful expression of connection and collaboration. Students were encouraged to take a hot cross bun and intentionally seek out someone they had not previously spoken to – an opportunity to form a new connection or strengthen a budding relationship. It was a tangible and thoughtful way to build community and foster belonging.
The Junior School also celebrated Easter with a Kindergarten to Year 6 assembly held in the Gym. This event was well attended and warmly received by our community, providing a joyful and reflective space for students to engage with the Easter story.
The hope of Easter is made tangible in the resurrection of Jesus Christ – affirming mankind’s redemption from sin and the promise of eternal life in the presence of God for those who believe in Him as Saviour. This hope is not fleeting or circumstantial; it is enduring and secure.
Martin Luther King Jr. captured the essence of hope beautifully:
“Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness.”
“We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.”
It is this contrast – between finite disappointment and infinite hope – that reflects the true heart of Easter. Through the resurrection, we are offered a living hope: a promise of restoration and eternal life.
Psalm 62:5 – 6 reminds us:
“Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.”
In contrast, much of our Western celebration of Easter can lean towards temporary pleasures – chocolate eggs, Easter hunts, and seasonal traditions. While these are enjoyable and form part of cherished childhood memories, they are ultimately fleeting. As life unfolds, we all encounter challenges, disappointments, and unmet expectations.
Yet Scripture reassures us that hope placed in God does not disappoint. As written in Isaiah 49:23:
“Then you will know that I am the Lord; those who hope in me will not be disappointed.”
This is why the true message of Easter is so important and life-changing – it offers a hope that is certain, enduring, and anchored beyond the circumstances of this world.
Our prayer for the Swan Christian College community is that you enjoy a restful and meaningful Easter break – cherishing time with family and loved ones, and reflecting on the promise of an eternal future, not just the immediacy of the present.
