This week has marked a strong and positive start to Term 2, with students settling back into College life well. On Tuesday, it was wonderful to welcome everyone back and see our community reconnect after the break. A highlight of the week was the success of our Senior Boys at the Futsal State Championship, where selected Year 10 to 12 students progressed to the finals at Cockburn Aquatic & Recreation Centre and secured a win against Shenton College. We congratulate the team and their coach, Mr Matthew Spencer, on this excellent achievement. Our Senior School students have also been working diligently in rehearsals for The Sound of No Music, with excitement building ahead of Opening Night next week. Today, we gathered for our ANZAC Day Assembly for Year 2 to 12 students in the Gym, taking time to reflect with respect and gratitude, while our 10–12 girls are competing in the ACC Championship Netball.
Looking ahead, next week’s events include:
A recent LinkedIn post by Rochelle Wilson, educational consultant and mentor, reminds us that many of the challenges we see in children today start early in life, not just at school. As she writes, “We’ve moved from play-based childhoods to phone-based childhoods… and the impact is showing up everywhere.”
Children now have less time to play, talk, and solve problems face to face. Instead, they are often on screens. This can affect how they learn, connect, and handle emotions.
Small changes matter:
✔️ Delaying smartphones
✔️ Creating boundaries around tech
✔️ Prioritizing outdoor and unstructured play
✔️ Rebuilding real-world connection and responsibility
We don’t need to eliminate technology. But we do need to rebalance childhood. Because childhood isn’t meant to be scrolled. It’s meant to be lived.
A new book, When Screens Go Quiet, speaks into this. It was written after Australia introduced a social media ban for children under 16 in December 2025. The book gives simple ideas and hope for families trying to find balance.

The message is simple – childhood should not just be on a screen. It should be lived through real play, real friendships, and real life.

From time to time, the College Café will introduce specialty meal options and food stations to provide greater variety for students. These may include items such as wraps, which will be available at a slightly higher price, depending on the offering.
In light of rising food and supply costs, these adjusted prices for specialty items allow the Café to continue offering fresh and quality options while maintaining sustainability. Importantly, the Café’s regular day-to-day meals will remain at the standard price of $7.50, ensuring consistent and affordable choices are still available for students.

This is a comic farce about a theatre company that has lost its money! In a desperate attempt to rebuild the coffers, they need a show in a hurry and decide to do a whodunnit mystery in an Austrian Abbey called The Sound of No Music. As the rehearsals commence, so does the chaos and the ensemble navigate their parody, while trying to find out where that money has gone.

It was great to see all our Junior School students back on campus on Tuesday morning as we began Term 2. The classrooms were full of energy, and it was wonderful to reconnect after the break.
We are looking forward to a positive term ahead, with plenty of learning, growth and opportunities for students to get involved. Thank you to our families for your continued support as we start the term together.
During Term 2, our Head of Senior School, Mr Terry Eason, will be serving at Mundaring Christian College to provide leadership support for the term. We are thankful for his willingness to assist another SCEA school.
In Mr Eason’s absence, Mr Simon Bergin, Head of Swanonline, will step into the role of Acting Head of Senior School for Term 2 where he will be managing both Swanonline and Senior School. Mr Bergin brings valuable experience and a strong understanding of the College, and we are confident in his leadership during this time. We appreciate your support and prayers for both Mr Eason and Mr Bergin as they serve in these roles.
In the final week of last term, two teams of Year 10 to 12 boys represented the College at the preliminary rounds of the School Sport WA State Futsal Championships at Kingsway Indoor Stadium. Both teams played well, with our ‘A’ team earning a place in the finals.
The finals were held this Wednesday at Cockburn Aquatic & Recreation Centre, where the boys put in a strong performance. They progressed through the quarterfinal against St Norbert’s College and the semifinal against Lake Joondalup Baptist College to reach the final against Shenton College.
Having already beaten Shenton College in the preliminary rounds, the team went into the match with confidence. In a close game, they came away with the win to be crowned School Sport WA State Futsal Champions.
Well done to all the boys involved across both the preliminary rounds and finals for their effort, teamwork, and the way they represented the College. We also thank and congratulate their coach, Mr Matthew Spencer, for his leadership and support throughout the competition.
