Does the Trade Centre help students to get a job?
Swan Trade Training Centre aims to produce confident, well-rounded students who become ‘top class’ apprentices equipped with industry grade skills and professionalism, and pride themselves on a job well done. Students are equipped to become independent thinkers, make informed decisions and take responsibility for their own actions.
Our staff support students with mentoring, career advice, business insights and skills to assist with employment.
However, we cannot guarantee that each of our students will secure an apprenticeship after graduation as each student's individual success after school is ultimately up to them.
-
What are the work experience expectations?
Here at the Swan Trade Training Centre, work experience forms an integral part of each pre-apprenticeship.
Every student is required to attend each placement (approximately six weeks’ worth, divided over Year 11 and 12) and work alongside a host employer. The students will be responsible for finding their own placement and engaging with the host employer to set up their placement for the designated dates (STTC staff can help source potential host employers). Insurance paperwork will then be sent out and a pre-site visit will be conducted before the student commences their placement.
Each student must abide by not only the College’s rules but also the host employer's, this may include a pre-site induction, drug and alcohol test or other requirements stipulated by the host employer. The student will be required to work a normal day (8 hours) and will log their daily activities and hours in their log book which will be provided prior to their placement. It will be the responsibility of the student to notify their host employer or the school if they are unwell and/or unavailable to attend their placement on a particular day.
