On a beautiful (if slightly warm) day on Friday, 16 May, the 2025 House Cross Country Carnival was held. After recess, everyone made their way down to the front oval, with the first event (Year 7 girls) commencing shortly after. Subsequent events were spaced 15 minutes apart, with runners completing two laps of the course around the College (approximately 3.4 km).
The first-placed runner across the line for their gender/year group earned 40 points for their House, with the second-placed runner receiving 38 points, the third-placed runner earning 36 points, and so on until 20th place. All runners finishing from 21st onwards still earned one point for their House, so it was important for all the Houses to have as many runners as possible on the course.
While the running events were taking place, a competition of a different kind was happening on the oval. The annual House Tug-o-War competition was well supported, with Houses taking on each other in each year group. Teams could have up to 15 people on the rope, with at least five of those being female. In the end, Bennett were far too strong (literally!) and took out the trophy for the best-performing Tug-o-War House across all year groups.
Once all the running events had been completed, students went to the gymnasium for the presentations. The first, second and third-placed runners for each gender/year group were awarded medals and are to be congratulated for their fantastic efforts. Lastly, the champion House was announced. For the first time ever, Mungulu were crowned the 2025 Cross Country champions. This result made Mr Gillies (House Coordinator) very happy indeed.
Congratulations to Mungulu for their amazing achievement, and well done to all students who helped to make the Cross Country such a great day!
