Junior band programs
Year 3 String Program
The Music Department at the College provides a great opportunity for all Year 3 students each year to receive violin, viola or cello lessons free of charge for one semester. Lessons are provided weekly and each student receives lessons in groups of four per tutor.  The students are taught to care for their instrument as well as how to practice correctly.  Instruments are loaned free of charge from the College. As well as group lessons, students come together as a whole class to play through their pieces together and learn to play music as an ensemble. This program runs during the school day.
Year 5 Band Program - Blast off Band
The Blast off Band with accompanying tuition is a free music program for one semester, delivering a group lesson each week on a concert band instrument with all students taking part in a weekly afternoon Concert Band rehearsal on Tuesdays after school (3:15-4:00pm). Instruments on offer are flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone horn, tuba, bass guitar and percussion.
Senior ensembles
Senior Drum Corp
The Drum Corps is one of our dynamic ensemble groups. It enables students to explore the art of playing together different rhythmic patterns on a variety of drums. The ensemble is designed for students who love rhythm, beginners and rhythmically competent students. Students will be given an opportunity to play a range of popular rhythmic patterns, often experimenting with different styles to create a unique performance work. The Drum Corps performs at special College functions, Awards Night and at the Valedictory Dinner. In the past they have performed at the Oil and Gas Conference and with the Wanneroo Pipe Band.Â

Senior Concert Band
The Concert Band is one of the staple bands at Swan Christian College. It aims to develop the fine tone, musicianship and ensemble skills that are required to create a ‘mint’ ensemble. Students at different year levels, (including special dispensation Year 6 students), who play a woodwind, brass, guitar, bass guitar, keyboard or percussion instruments are encouraged to come along and are welcome to join at any time.
The band explores playing a variety of styles, including theme songs from film and stage shows, to excerpts from symphonic pieces and arrangements of rock and popular music. The aim is to meet the needs of different music skill levels and students will develop their confidence very quickly.

Jazz Band
This talented group of musicians who enjoy ‘all that jazz’ as their main repertoire have fun exploring other sub-genres, jazz standards, jazz fusion, cool jazz, swing and some hard be-bop, because as jazz artists they are constantly improvising and looking for ways to expand the sounds and rhythms of jazz. Performance is the name of their game. If you have a flair for improvising and can play a jazz instrument, come along!
We encourage students who have experience playing the piano, drums, guitar, bass guitar, saxophone, trombone, trumpet and even a woodwind instrument to meet with our Jazz band conductor. The Jazz band has many opportunities to perform both in school, and in the community throughout the year.
