Over the Easter holidays, Year 4 student Amy S proudly represented Swan Christian College at the WA Interschool Equestrian Championships, held from 13 to 16 April at the State Equestrian Centre in Brigadoon.
This large-scale event drew riders and their families from across Western Australia, with many choosing to camp onsite to fully immerse themselves in the competition atmosphere. Fortunately for Amy and her family, living just 20 minutes away meant they could return home each evening. Plans are already underway to camp next year and be even more involved.
Amy competed as an individual rider in the 60cm and 70cm Show Jumping classes, making her the only Year 4 student in a field of mostly Year 5 and 6 competitors. With her pony Maxine, Amy delivered an outstanding performance, securing:
-
Champion Primary Participant 70cm Show Jumping
-
Reserve Champion Primary Participant 60cm Show Jumping
Amy’s passion for equestrian sports was evident throughout the competition, and she thoroughly enjoyed connecting with other young riders.
Plans are already in motion for a Swan Christian College team to participate in the 2026 Championships, with the goal of bringing together at least four riders across both Junior School and Senior School. Lucy, Amy’s parent, has generously offered to volunteer as the team manager and organise coaching in the lead-up to the event with some of WA’s top coaches.
Congratulations to Amy on her remarkable achievements. We look forward to seeing her continued success and to growing our equestrian presence in future competitions.
