Year 5s Visit the Zoo

Our Year 5 students recently enjoyed an exciting day of learning at Perth Zoo, taking part in the Wild Protectors education program. This engaging 90-minute experience allowed students to step into the role of wildlife rangers as they explored how people work to protect animals and their habitats around the world. Through guided discussions and hands-on group activities, students investigated the challenges facing wildlife in environments such as the Asian Rainforest and African Savannah, while learning about the important conservation work taking place to support these species.

Students also had the opportunity to explore the Zoo grounds, making connections to their in-class Biological Sciences learning about animal and plant adaptations. As they observed a variety of species, students considered how different physical and behavioural adaptations help plants and animals survive in their environments. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect classroom learning in Science and Humanities with real-world examples, encouraging students to think critically about conservation and how their own actions can help protect the natural world.
