On Friday 24 September, the last day of Term 3, Swan Chrisitan College celebrated Philippines Day at the Junior School and raised just over $7,000!

Students were allowed to wear red, blue, yellow or white (colours of the Philippines flag) and given the opportunity to raise funds to support a school in the Philippines called Malay Agape Sunbeam Academy Inc.

In the lead up to the day, students asked family and friends to sponsor them to give up something they loved (for example social media, chocolate, their favourite toy or computer game) for five days. The fundraising activities on Philippines Day included a Philippines Day Royal Show, Year 5s selling hand-made chocolates, Yellow Brick Road and Bring-And-Buy Stall.

One of the fundraising activities at our Philippines Day Royal Show was the ‘Kiss a Fish’ activity where four teachers were nominated to kiss a frozen fish and the teacher who raised the most money had to complete the dare. Mrs Alycia Greaves and Mr Scott Puzey both drew a tie and Mrs Greaves had to kiss the mouth of the fish, while Mr Puzey kissed the tail of the fish!

It was a fun-filled day to end the term and gave students a chance to focus on those who are in need in the Philippines. What an amazing effort!
