Congratulations to Year 12 student Maddison who won the 2018 Taste of the Future competition!

Every year, students from regional schools are invited to participate in the Taste of the Future competition and this year, Maddison was chosen as one of the eight finalists.

The aim of the Certificate III in Hospitality at Swan Christian College is for students to experience the Hospitality industry, to have an opportunity to pursue it and walk away with a qualification. The skills and experiences gained will be transferable to various areas in the workforce. The Taste of the Future competition is a great opportunity for students to express their talent.

As the winner of the competition, Maddison received a cash price, a scholarship paid apprenticeship and a voucher for the school.

“I practiced for six weeks working on the competition dish. It was hard work. I felt nervous and overwhelmed on the day but when I started cooking I was completely fine. Cooking against other students that I had never met before was different because I did not know what they were going to cook.”

“When I won, I felt so accomplished and proud of myself. Winning a cash price and an apprenticeship was amazing. I was also able to help the school hospitality program. I want to give a huge thank you to chef Rob for taking the time to mentor me.”

Thank you to Maddison’s teachers for allowing her to practice her dish during their class time. Many thanks to chef Rob for training Maddison. Please join me once again in congratulating Maddison.
