Welcome Back to a new school year

Psalm 46:1-2 “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear..”

I shared this verse with students on the first day of the year as I discussed that it is important they take ownership of their learning this year.  We discussed the fact that, like most challenges in life, we have support services to call on, our teachers, parents, friends, family and, of course, our God.  When our challenge is hard and the work looks daunting, we are so blessed to be able to call on God, knowing help is at hand.

At that assembly, it was also a delight to welcome back our 2019 Year 12 students who were outstanding achievers in the 2019 WACE awards.  We congratulated them, celebrated their success and enjoyed hearing about the plans they have for their future beyond school.

As I wrote last week, the year has started well, and our students seem to be engaged and well settled. Most that I have spoken with have told me about their holiday and added how happy they are to be back at school.

The year is already very busy; we have students on camp, a variety of excursions under way and exciting things happening in our classrooms. I saw the sports calendar published by Mr Tweedie the other day and was excited to see how many sporting opportunities are available to our students.  On top of that, we have the Arts; Fenceline Theatre Company, music and dance, and service opportunities, cadets, etc. I encourage students and parents to look for opportunities to get involved and make the most of the opportunities beyond the classroom available in our College.

At this busy time of year, you may find you are receiving more communications from the College than is usual.  This will settle down as the year gets underway, but it is important that we keep you informed and aware of the plans and opportunities available as the year starts.

Please take any opportunity you can to be involved in your child’s learning and College life. You are always welcome on campus as we seek to be a learning community working together.  I look forward to seeing you at College events whenever you have the opportunity.
