Concert Band at Swan Christian College

In Week 2 the Music Department started a new Concert Band as part of our Extracurricular music program, inviting students from Junior, Middle and Senior Schools.

The Concert Band is offered to students who have at least one and a half years experience playing a musical instrument. All musicians are welcome, especially those who play a woodwind and brass instrument. We had a great  response from students and equally wonderful support from our parents.

This semester, our musicians will be led by our Principal, Mr Adrian Scott and music staff, who will also be playing along in the ensemble and leading the students. We meet each Tuesday at 12:45pm -1:20pm (15 minutes into the lunch period) in the Maali Mia Theatre and again in the afternoon at 3:15pm - 4:30pm, to assist student as they practice what they have learnt at lunch. Mr Dietrich will escort the Junior School students to and from the Senior School. We hope to see all our budding musicians join this band.

Please direct any queries to Mrs Mudhan on the College number 9374 8313. The ensemble application forms are available at Junior or Middle/Senior School Student Services.

Jazz Band

The Jazz Band is an auditioned band that welcomes all musicians who have at least three years of playing a brass and Woodwind instrument. The band leader, Mr Jeremy Thompson, is an exceptional professional musician who is widely known in Perth’s Jazz arena, and has been a finalist in the 2014 National Jazz Awards. He has been playing since the age of 11. Jeremy completed a Bachelor of Music (Jazz Performance) Honours at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts, achieving outstanding results as a student. His band leading at the College is supported by Mr Ben Dallin, a trained jazz musician and a staff member at our College.

The past few years has seen this band develop tremendously and we should be seeing them play more in public this year, as they have developed an impressive repertoire for public performance. They meet each Thursday after school from 3:30pm – 4:30pm in Room I14. Please direct any queries to Mrs Mudhan on the College number 9374 8313. The ensemble application forms are available at Middle/Senior School Student Services.
