I’d like to start by welcoming everyone back for another school year. For those who don’t know me, my name is Sam Tweedie and it is my privilege to coordinate all of our House and Inter-School sporting events for the Middle and Senior School.

I would like to highlight some of the upcoming events in the first few weeks of term. All of the mentioned events will require your child to sign up for these activities with either their House Coordinator for House events or myself for Inter-School events.

Firstly, the Year 7s will be participating in a Swim trials afternoon in the second week of term. The boys trials were held on Monday 3 February and the girls trials will be held on Friday 7 February. Both trials are held in the afternoon from midday onwards at Bilgoman Aquatic Centre. Please note that the trials are for Year 7 students only. The purpose of these trials is to be able to allocate swimmers into events for the twilight House Swimming Carnival on 24 February. More information regarding this will be communicated in the next edition.

Our T20 cricket teams season also kicks off in the first couple of weeks of this term. This is a team for Year 10-12s and played as a home and away style fixture. The games are usually played on a Wednesday afternoon but can change depending on the school we are playing. Please encourage your child if they love their cricket to come and sign up in the PE office for the Swan Dingoes!

The final thing I will mention is our Basketball and Ultimate Frisbee teams that will be happening on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons starting on 25 February. The Year 7-9s will play their fixtured games on a Tuesday afternoon either at Swan or a neighbouring Independent School. There is a stand-alone Year 7 team for both boys and girls basketball, two Year 8/9 basketball teams and a Year 7-9 mixed Ultimate Frisbee team.

The Year 10-12s will play their fixture on a Wednesday afternoon with again a boys and a girls basketball team and a mixed Ultimate Frisbee team. We would love to see as many students as possible sign up for these teams so please encourage your child to get involved in one of these sports this term. What better way to stay fit, meet some new people and have some fun!
