On Saturday 30 November Swan Christian College had two teams participate in the Regional LEGO League Tournament at St Stephen’s Carramar. Both teams attained wonderful results. One of our teams won the overall competition by coming first in the various categories!

20 students from Year 6 – Year 10 made up the two teams. The tournament involved students working together to solve real world problems using a variety of skills, these include: creativity, teamwork and problem solving.

The competition includes creating a robot to solve a robot challenge, working together as a team and creating a presentation to a panel of judges to solve a real-life problem. The topic this year was:

(1)    Identify a problem with a building or public space in your community

(2)    Design a solution

(3)    Share the solution with others and then refine it

This is the first time in four years participating that we have reached this level at one tournament and Mr Twine and I were really impressed with the level of commitment and enthusiasm the students demonstrated to achieve this result. One of the teams have been invited to attend the National Tournament at Curtin University on the 14 December. We are looking forward to seeing how the team participates in the next stage.
