As we bid farewell to 2023, we are compelled to reflect upon the remarkable journey we’ve shared as a community. In celebrating the achievements of our students, we find inspiration in the words of 2 Corinthians 9:8: “And God is able to make all grace abound unto you; that you, having always all sufficiency in everything, may abound unto every good work.”

The recent Celebration Evening, dedicated to academic accomplishments, was an opportunity to honour the dedication and excellence of our students. While all students deserve congratulations for completing a successful year, special recognition goes to those who received academic awards, showcasing a level of excellence beyond the norm.

Our artistic endeavours flourished with the High School Musical, a collaborative effort involving 80 students from both Junior and Senior schools. Kudos to Jane Hille and the production team for their dedication and the success of this high-quality musical. We eagerly anticipate the creative endeavours that 2024 will unfold.

In the realm of sports, our achievements were truly commendable. The Junior School dominated in Swimming, Cross Country, Athletics, Cricket, Hockey, WACSSA Swimming, AFL, Netball, Volleyball, Cross country, and Athletics. The Senior School saw Shenton winning Swimming and Cross Country, while Bennett claimed the Athletics Carnival. Notable achievements include the undefeated Y8/9 Boys Soccer team and the Senior boys’ Basketball team’s impressive performance in the ACC championship quarter-finals.

Reflecting on the year’s events, we recall highlights such as the Visual Arts evening, showcasing the exceptional talent of our students. Notably, Savannah Matthews, a graduate of 2019, had her artwork selected for display at The Lester Prize, one of Australia’s most prestigious art exhibitions.

The evening sports assembly with guest speaker Damien Martin left a lasting impression, and dance was celebrated through JUN school EduDance and SEN School Dance Showcase. The Emergency Cadets achieved a significant milestone, with 37 students obtaining their Recreational Skippers ticket in the last four years.

As we reflect on these accomplishments, the wisdom of Gabe Lions reminds us that when we unite to pursue a shared vision, we strive for the common good. This sentiment aligns with 2 Corinthians 9:8, emphasizing that the grace bestowed upon us by God ensures sufficiency in all aspects of our lives, empowering us to engage in noble endeavours.

In the spirit of gratitude and reflection, we challenge each member of our community to consider how their unique gifts can contribute to every good work. Let us not only pursue personal success but also actively work towards the betterment of our communities, industries, and the world at large.

In this final Inform Newsletter for 2023, we extend heartfelt thanks to our students and parents for contributing to the success of Swan Christian College. The leadership teams and staff wish you a Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year. May the festive season bring joy and rejuvenation, and we eagerly anticipate the opportunities and challenges that 2024 will bring. Thank you for making Swan Christian College the wonderful school it is, in which we can all live, learn and love.
