Despite the cold and wet weather, several staff from Swan Christian College’s Junior School took part in Perth’s biggest annual fundraising challenge, the HBF Run for a Reason, on Sunday 25 May.
Staff participated in a range of events including the 3km walk and 12km run, with our Principal, Dr Darnelle Pretorius, joining the 12km group and setting a strong example of perseverance and school spirit.
Participating in the run each year, Mrs Natalie Zapantis, Education Assistant, explains why the run holds special meaning for her:
“I did the 3km walk on Sunday with Deb Schorer and Natashia Albufera to raise funds for Brain Cancer research after my Dad passed away from a glioblastoma tumour 2 1/2 years ago.”
A special mention goes to Mr Brandan Porteous, one of our Junior School teachers, who completed the half marathon. This is a major personal achievement, and even more impressive given the tough weather conditions. Well done, Brandan. Your determination did not go unnoticed.
The HBF Run for a Reason raised over $1.9 million this year, supporting more than 350 charities across Western Australia. We are proud that our Junior School staff could contribute to this significant cause and model the values of resilience, integrity and community involvement to our students.
