Looking Out for Each Other

It is only a term ago that I wrote an article asking for patience and consideration for other drivers and our children at the beginning and end of the day when picking up or dropping off children. Once again, reports have been made of drivers verbally abusing others in the carpark and some dangerous driving both within the College and as cars are entering Great Northern Highway.

The change to a single direction for traffic has improved traffic flow but it is still far from ideal and we are continuing to work to further improve the flow for vehicles in and out of the College.  To do this effectively, we are in negotiation with Main Roads, the City of Swan, Transperth and our neighbours to work towards a long-term solution. It is difficult to get all parties together on a regular basis and each must consider their own needs and budgets while seeking to arrive at the best solution for all.

Can I ask that any accidents are reported to Reception, even if they occur as a vehicle is leaving or arriving in the College as well as in the carpark? This will help us document the extent of the problem and share that with major stakeholders.

Student Supervision Before and After School

Early drop off and late pickup of children from the College has increased as the year has progressed.  I am sure this is in part because parents are increasingly busy and need to meet their own time commitments. While we have sympathy for that, I must advise that we do not have the resources to provide supervision before 8:00am or after 4:00pm.  Unless children are part of a supervised before or after school activity, they are not under direct supervision of a teacher.  This, of course, does not apply to Kindergarten students who must be delivered to and collected by their parents directly from the teacher.

The College does have before and after school care available provided by Camp Australia on College grounds and they may be contacted on 1300 105 34. For more information and to register, please visit their website.

Year 12 Students

The end of their time at Swan is rapidly approaching for our Year 12 students as they prepare to graduate and undertake their exams. Last week, those that had been with us since Kindergarten visited the Junior School assembly and spoke with the students there. This was enjoyed by students and some staff who remembered these students when they first started school.

As these students prepare to complete their formal schooling and sit their exams, I would ask that you keep them in your prayers and encourage them through the study pressures, exams and journey into the next phase of their lives.

Please also remember their families and the staff as they provide support and encouragement.

Parent Committee

Finally, I encourage you to keep an eye on communications from our hard-working College Parent Committee. This group of parents provide wonderful support and encouragement for me and are engaging in some exciting projects in the College.  I thank them for their support and the benefits they bring to our College community.
