Luke Durbridge is a Swan Christian College alumni and current member of the international cycling team Jayco–AlUla. In 2015, Luke Durbridge initiated the Luke Durbridge Scholarship to encourage and support athletes in all areas of sport.

This scholarship is for young athletes who are trying to achieve the highest level in their choice of sport. The scholarship is designed to provide some extra funds to help parents support their child in elite sport.

The money provided through this scholarship can be used in a range of ways such as purchasing equipment, travel to events and coaching/nutrition support.

About Luke Durbridge

Luke is a professional cyclist from Perth, and a graduated student from Swan Christian College. Luke discovered cycling after participating in various sports in his younger years. Having dabbled in rugby, basketball and triathlon, at the age of 15 he transitioned to road and track cycling and turned Pro in 2012. Luke has recently finished riding in the Le Tour De France and is currently racing the LaVuelta, an annual multi-stage bicycle race primarily held in Spain.

He won numerous national titles in his junior years, including three U19 World Championships and received a bronze medal in the Individual Time trial at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India.  In 2012 Luke turned professional with GreenEDGE Cycling and won dual national titles at the Australian Road Championships with the Individual Time Trial and Road Race. Luke continues to be a competitive member of Team Jayco–AlUla and has competed in the Tour de France since 2014.

How to apply

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be able to meet the following requirements:

  1. Have a high level of attendance at the College
  2. Be in good standing within the College (both behavioural and academic)
  3. Currently in Years 7-12 or Year 6 students can apply for Year 7 in 2024.

To apply for the scholarship, athletes must write a letter of application addressed to the Principal via the Principal’s PA Mrs Natalee Friend addressing the following criteria:

  • Name of applicant
  • Category of sport
  • Individual goals for the sport
  • How does the candidate believe they would benefit from the scholarship?
  • Why does the candidate believe they are worthy of the scholarship?

Applications close on Wednesday 8 November, 2023.
