During the last week of October, two teams of enthusiastic Year 8-9 students represented Swan Christian College at the inaugural NEAS (ACC) Interschool Indoor Cricket Tournaments. This exciting new competition was introduced as a Term 4 trial, giving students the opportunity to compete in a fun and fast-paced sport during a quieter time of the school year.
The tournaments were a great success, with students enjoying two energetic days of competition – one for the girls and one for the boys – and all are already looking forward to the next event in 2026.
The girls were up first, joining teams from La Salle, Holy Cross, and Swan Valley Anglican at Seamers Sports Centre in Balcatta. Each team played three preliminary matches before the top two schools faced off in the final. After finishing their pool games with a strong 2–1 record, the Swan girls advanced to the 1st vs 2nd playoff; and they didn’t disappoint. With excellent teamwork and determination, they won convincingly to become the inaugural NEAS Indoor Cricket Champions. Congratulations to our champion girls’ team.
The boys’ competition followed, with the Swan team giving their all in a series of close matches. Despite finishing the preliminary matches with a 1–2 record – including a heartbreaking loss on the final ball against La Salle – they showed impressive spirit and sportsmanship throughout. In their playoff for 3rd place, the boys again fought hard but were narrowly defeated, finishing in 4th position overall. Several players had never played cricket before, yet their effort and attitude were outstanding.
Across both days, our students displayed excellent conduct both on and off the pitch. They represented the College with pride, showing respect, teamwork, and perseverance.
