On Friday, 7 February and Wednesday, 19 February 2025 our Senior School students competed in the House Swimming Carnivals at Bayswater Waves. On Friday the Year 10-12 students competed and the Wednesday carnival was the Year 7-9 students’ turn. We were blessed with great weather on both days with both carnivals quite hot, encouraging students to get in the pool by competing for their House. It was great to see an increase in attendance and participation from last year with students across both dates representing their Houses well.

After the Year 10-12 carnival, Shenton held a strong lead in first place, with Kennedy and Mungulu only separated by two points in second and third place. A smooth-running carnival allowed us to present the age champion and runner-up awards at the end of the carnival.

The Year 7-9 carnival was a very different story. Shenton finished fourth at the end, with Bennett rising to first place. Mungulu also rose one place to second and Kennedy dropped one place to third. Also, the increased attendance at this carnival meant that more events were required (a good problem to have!), meaning that the age champion and runner-up awards could not be presented at the end of the carnival.

Those awards were announced at the whole school assembly two days later. But who would win the shield as the champion House? It was anyone’s guess! In the end, Shenton accumulated enough points at the Year 10-12 carnival to win, despite finishing fourth at the Year 7-9 carnival. Congratulations go to Shenton, as this is the fifth year in a row that they have won the swimming carnival shield!

Thank you to the staff in attendance for making the carnivals run smoothly, to the parents who came to support and assist with timing, and to the students for their positive participation on the day. The ACC interschool squad will be chosen from the carnivals and notification of selection will be communicated in the coming weeks.
