Rhinoceros is an Absurdist play and is a set text on the curriculum.
Year 12 students performed this last week as part of our tasks of performance, design and production. Rhinoceros is a long and difficult play to understand and certainly to perform, but its message is profound. It is for this reason the student’s selected poignant scenes for the performance of this task.
Ionesco wrote this play during a period in history, just after the first and second World Wars when many artists were questioning the very existence of human life against all the suffering that hand taken place. Although this play presents a worldview, for us as Christians, it brings to light the very real need for our faith.
