Living Room Worship and Devotions

Churches across Australia had to close their usual Sunday services to comply with the Government’s restrictions on public gatherings and social distancing regulations. Many families in our College community have been affected by this change to their weekly routine, which can be an unsettling experience and make us feel even more isolated. Luckily, we can access a multitude of online resources that allow us to connect with our Church community, study devotions and worship from the comfort of our living rooms.

Church Live Streams

Many churches in Perth are hosting online live streams of their Sunday services on Facebook and YouTube. Check your church’s website to see if they are offering this service or refer to 98Five’s list of churches offering online live stream services.

Worship Music Online

Music streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music feature a huge repertoire of worship music that you can easily tune into from home. There are playlists for almost all denominations – from contemporary Christian songs to Anglican hymns to contemplative acoustic worship – suiting different styles of worship and situations.

Devotions and Bible Study Resources

Resources like the YouVersion Bible app provide easy access to bible studies and devotionals on a wide range of topics, for different life circumstances and stages in a believer’s life. How to Start Reading the Bible could be a great place to start if bible studies and devotions are not part of your usual weekly routine and The Book of James with Francis Chan could be a great video bible study to work through if you have been following Jesus as a believer for some time.

The Bible App for Kids is specifically designed to engage young children with bible stories on an age-appropriate level. It includes 41 bible stories that keep children engaged through interactive animations and games. Children can click through these stories together with their parents or use the read-out-loud feature which narrates the stories in a child-friendly style.

The BibleProject (a non-profit animation studio that produces short animated bible videos and resources) has launched an eight-week program to help Christians continue to engage in Scripture while they can’t physically attend church. You can access this program by signing up to their newsletter or by clicking on this link. Each week from 21 March to 9 May, the BibleProject Church at Home resources will include a short, animated video, a short audio message, three to five Scripture readings and six to height discussion questions.

If you have missed the first couple of weeks, you can catch up via this link. The first two weeks of the program looked at Generosity (Week 1) and the Sabbath (Week 2)
