Middle and Senior School Sporting Update

As you know, many sporting events have been cancelled or postponed, including our House Cross Country and our NEAS Netball and Soccer season. At this stage these have been postponed rather than cancelled, however they will look different this year once they do occur. Further information regarding these events will be communicated later this term.

Facilities and Structured Sporting Opportunities
As of this week, we have been able to open our facilities to the students and also plan for some House Sport events and after-school sporting opportunities.

Starting this week, our gymnasium and weights area will be open to our students for some structured sporting opportunities. From Tuesday through to Thursday until 4:15pm after-school, our PE staff will be running some sporting activities for those who would like to stay around after-school.

On Tuesday the sporting activity will be volleyball, on Wednesday it will be basketball and on Thursday, indoor soccer. There is no coaching aspect involved, just an opportunity to play sport against other students.

The upstairs weights area will also be supervised by a staff member during these times to allow kids to use the fitness equipment.

With all of these activities, precaution will be taken in regard to ensuring all equipment is cleaned before and after use and that students wash and sanitise their hands.

Inter-House Dodgeball
Another opportunity we are starting next week is an Inter-House Dodgeball competition. Dodgeball will allow us to compress the season into the last six weeks of term and provide the students with the opportunity to represent their House during this term. Details and fixtures will be circulated to the students in their Mentor Groups.

Fascia Rolling
Finally, a reminder that there is a Fascia Rolling class scheduled for every Friday morning in the fitness room in the gym. It starts at 8:00am and anyone is welcome to attend.

It is fantastic to be able to start promoting and organising sporting opportunities for your children once again. I really enjoy seeing the students succeeding and taking the opportunities presented to them.

May I thank you for your support during the Learning@Home period and of course we take nothing for granted in these next few weeks as we know things can change quickly.

All the best.

Deputy Head of Health, PE and Sport
