Music lessons are now in full swing using Zoom – video conferencing software. They are going well and the access to all kinds of online music technology is helping to make music lessons really varied and full of interest.
Given the unusual circumstances we find ourselves in, I suggest we keep an open mind about the online lessons for the rest of this term. If you feel it isn’t working for your child, then we will allow you to withdraw from Music Lessons in Term 2, as long as you have notified us by the end of this term (Week 11).
I do believe that in these uncertain times, playing music is an important activity that will bring many benefits, including improved wellbeing and a way to express oneself when sometimes words cannot. I am sure you have seen the videos of people singing from their balconies to bring comfort. Music is one of the things that we are able to continue to do at home, in this time when so many other activities are not happening. I really encourage you to keep going with music lessons.
Swan has just signed up to a fabulous resource called Smart Music. It is an online library of music that gives instant feedback as you play. It includes ensemble music, solos, method books and technique building exercises. This will enable students to continue working on their music with the added benefit of accompaniment, feedback and recording options. All students enrolled for Music Lessons are eligible and encouraged to sign up for the free subscription.
