This week has been full of hands-on learning and community connection across both Junior and Senior School. Our Kindergarten to Year 2 students learned about sustainability through the Nutmegz Education incursion, while selected Year 7 students represented the College at the ACC Lightning Carnival. On Wednesday, Emergency Cadets took to the trails for a mountain biking excursion, and yesterday our Year 10 students explored career pathways at the Careers Expo at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre. The Swan Trade Training Centre hosted a special Mother’s Day breakfast this morning, while our Senior School students competed in the House Cross Country Carnival with strong support from families. Our Swanonline students enjoyed a day at the movies watching Minecraft, and Junior School students took part in the WACSSA Football Carnival. Year 3 also delighted the community by hosting an engaging assembly. Families are reminded to register for tomorrow’s Community Bushdance here.
Looking ahead, the Annual College Meeting will take place this Monday evening, 20 May, at 6:00pm, offering families an opportunity to hear from our executive team and Parent Christian Life Committee. On Tuesday, we will host our local pastors for a morning tea, followed by the Junior School Kindergarten Speech Information Night. Selected students will also represent the College in the NEAS Netball and Soccer Carnival. Wednesday promises to be a highlight as several brave staff members—including Dr Darnelle Pretorius, Dr Todd, Ms Hille, Mr Beacham and Mr Grisham—take part in the Ice Bucket Challenge to raise funds for Beyond Blue. You can support the Year 12 students’ efforts here. Year 10 families whose sons or daughters are interested in a trade career are also encouraged to register for the upcoming Try a Trade event on 4 June via this link.

Don’t miss this laugh-out-loud comedy suitable for the whole family! Making Robin Hood is a clever and chaotic play directed by Jane Hille, featuring Swan Christian College alumni.
Set around a group of actors preparing for a medieval theatre festival, the play follows their attempt to rework the legendary Robin Hood tale with a hilarious twist – a feminist version of the classic story performed mostly by men. Add in a dragon, a confused storyline, and a director’s assistant who insists she’s a star, and you’ve got a recipe for comedy gold.

This week we launched Canvas for Parents, the new learning management system that has replaced SEQTA for our Junior School families. This platform will be used by teachers from Pre Primary to Year 6 to share formal assessment results, year-level subject information, and teacher profiles, along with contact details, creating a more connected and transparent learning experience.
Please look out for an email that was sent this week with information on how to access Canvas and make the most of its features.
We look forward to partnering with you as we continue to support your child’s educational growth through this enhanced digital platform.
